Wood Stork GBH Portrait

Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge - Merritt Island, Florida
January 2nd, 2024
I love photographing Wood Storks. A face only a mother can love but also a rugged, weather worn handsomeness, but those feathers. A Wood Stork’s feathers are a contrast in beauty. They have entirely white feathers save for their flight and tail feathers. In this capture, the sun showed not only the near pure white feathers, but also the iridescent aspects of their darker feathers. When I saw the Great Blue Heron in the distance, I repositioned myself to capture this composition.

I am in my 50's and happily married with 5 daughters from our blended family. I became interested in photography just a few short years ago, much later in life than many but my passion is strong. I started out experimenting with scenic mountain shots, landscapes, flowers and anything nature as being outside is where I am happiest.
