Tricolored Herons always have a white belly, but during the breeding season Spring months, their colors become even more vibrant. Their bills and facial skin take on a bright cobalt blue hue and their legs, accents of pink. I was able to get this capture at Airlie Gardens in Wilmington North Carolina after this heron flew in for a late afternoon meal.
