Roseate Spoonbill Preening 2

Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge - Merritt Island, Florida
January 2nd, 2024
Getting this capture was a real treat. I watched this spoonbill repeatedly dip the tip of its bill into the water, then carefully run the bill down each flight feather, taking great care to clean each one individually. Over and over, the bird would repeat this process until each flight feather was clean. I loved that I was able to capture this angle of the bird and show the beautiful colors of the bird and how the flight feathers under its wing would fan out as the bird worked. Roseate Spoonbills are an amazing bird and so interesting to observe.

I am in my 50's and happily married with 5 daughters from our blended family. I became interested in photography just a few short years ago, much later in life than many but my passion is strong. I started out experimenting with scenic mountain shots, landscapes, flowers and anything nature as being outside is where I am happiest.
