Great Blue Heron Landing

Huntley Meadows Park - Alexandria, Virginia
September 9th, 2019
Great Blue Herons were in numbers this day at Huntley Meadows and with large numbers, sometimes these birds will get in some territorial battles. After a scuffle with two other blue herons, this Great Blue Heron came in hard, wings fully spread for a landing. These birds have wing spans that can stretch more than 6 feet and I love when I get a capture with them fully extended. Still one of my favorite birds to photograph.

I am in my 50's and happily married with 5 daughters from our blended family. I became interested in photography just a few short years ago, much later in life than many but my passion is strong. I started out experimenting with scenic mountain shots, landscapes, flowers and anything nature as being outside is where I am happiest.
