Great Blue Herons with Stick

Venice Rookery - Venice, Florida
February 10th, 2020
It was that time of year when bird species start their courting rituals as they prepare for breeding season. A common ritual for Great Blue Herons, these two herons are exchanging a stick. The male typically brings it in and gives it to the female, and in this case, she added it to the material that makes their nest. Aren’t they a cute couple?

I am in my 50's and happily married with 5 daughters from our blended family. I became interested in photography just a few short years ago, much later in life than many but my passion is strong. I started out experimenting with scenic mountain shots, landscapes, flowers and anything nature as being outside is where I am happiest.
